About IWM
Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM) is a collective of mathematicians that has been in existence since 2009. Its objective over the years has been to encourage more women to pursue higher education in mathematics, and to provide an exposure and environment that enables them to take up careers in mathematics. In its pursuit to fulfil the objective, IWM organizes various workshops and conferences that focus on presentation of original research work and discussion about career opportunities in mathematics.
This is a one-and-a-half day workshop that is open to all post-graduate students, PhD scholars, research fellows and college/university faculty members primarily working in various areas of mathematics.
There will be a special focus however on women participants. The aim is to encourage and support large scale participation from women.
Objectives of the Workshop
The objective of the workshop is to provide an exposure to research and a platform to discuss career opportunities in mathematics and also to discuss the state of mathematics education. Some well-known mathematicians from different parts of the country will deliver lectures at this event. There will be a discussion on mathematics education, particularly at the higher levels. Young researchers will be encouraged to interact with senior mathematicians, and will be given an opportunity to present their mathematical work in the form of posters.
Who is eligible to apply
Mathematics M.Sc. Students, Ph.D. students, postdocs, college/university faculty members from western part of India and regions bordering the western part of India.
(mainly Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Telengana and Karnataka that are close to the border of Maharashtra).
Others may also be given a chance if there is enough accommodation and space.
How to apply?
The last date for application submission is 9 January 2019.
Participants will be selected on the basis of information provided in the registration form. A limited number of participants may be accommodated at the HBCSE Guest House. For selected outstation participants, limited travel support is available.
